HEATHER LONG
I met Heather while working at a law firm (crazy right!) and we found out that we didn't just share a love of Harry Potter, but also a love of crochet and cheesy romance novels (no, we don't have any shame). Check out her story and make sure to come hang out with us at my scheduled craft show appearances!
What is your current craft of choice?
Mostly crochet, but I also dabbling in knitting, cross stitch, embroidery, and sewing. Is your craft a business? If so, what is your business name?
I’m just starting to craft as a business. It’s a daunting challenge to figure out a name and a brand. My business is SAHCM Crafts, which stands for Stay at Home Cat Mom Crafts. What title do you give yourself? Why?
I’m a creator, stitcher, hooker, and curator of craft supplies. Where are you based?
Northampton, PAWhat other crafts have you done?
I learned the very basics of knitting to make washcloths for my grandmother-in-law. I’ve also cross stitched a few patterns, mostly pop culture references or gifts for others. During the pandemic I bought my first sewing machine to make masks, and I’ve been slowly learning new skills to mend clothes and small projects. Being short my entire life (topping out at 5’3”), I’ve always needed my pants hemmed. I’ve also sewed a messenger bag and lanyards. What other crafts/creations do you want to pursue?
I would love to improve my knitting skills and confidence. I attempt to knit and almost always switch to a crochet project just because it’s quick and easy gratification. How has your craft had an effect on your "normal" life?
Crochet is like my form of meditation, especially if I’m working on a project with easy repetitive stitches. Being able to both zone out and be productive is fantastic. What is your favorite creation/thing to create?
I’m hooked (haha) on coffee sleeves and cold cup cozies at the moment. During the winter I love working on blankets because I can cuddle under them as they work up. Are you a "multi-tasker" with your creations? What are your common combos of multi-tasking?
I prefer listening over watching while I craft. I have “read” over 100 audiobooks in the past year while crocheting, not to mention how many Broadway musical soundtracks I’ve listened to.
Do you sell your crafted items? If so, where can we find them?
I’m just getting started, so the easiest place to find me is Facebook and Instagram. How can we, as the crafting/creator community support you? Social Media? Craft Shows? Pinterest boards?
You can find me on Instagram @sahcmcrafts and on Facebook at SAHCM Crafts. I’ll be at a few craft shows this fall and winter too.
