Commissions

So you're looking for a commission....

This is something that can be intimidating, but trust me, it's anything but. That being said, commissions are not always the best answer for your needs. I do love doing commissions but in order to keep up with my in-person inventory that I sell at markets, I do have to limit the number of commissions I take.

But... I do sell items and craft fairs and markets in person in and around Central Montana! Follow along on Social Media to get the updates and the chance to see them in person.

And, while I do put a little something special into my commissions, I do sell patterns for most of the items I sell at those fairs and markets, and I know from experience, your loved ones will love it just as much if not BETTER if you make the item yourself. Don't worry all my patterns are

Hopefully, this Q&A will help guide you, and if you have any specific questions, comment, DM or email me! I'll be happy to answer! Otherwise here are some FAQs that will hopefully answer some of your burning questions.

What's a commission and how do commissions?

A commission is an item that you want specifically made for you within specific parameters.

And they work pretty simply! Most people reach out because they see an item they like, but would like it in a different color for themselves or for a gift. Some people reach out with a general request of a baby blanket or scarf with little or no restrictions other than "it's for a boy". Some people reach out with photos of a beloved blanket that has since been destroyed due to use and wear and are hoping that it can be recreated. I have done all of these projects and many more. Some people want something very specific, others want something general. I am happy to work with both.

What does a commission cost?

Commissions tend to be slightly more expensive than a normal product. This is because more time and effort go into creating these items and finding specific patterns, or yarn colors. In general, I try to keep the cost as low as is feasible for the cost of materials and my time. Often if it is a smaller item (like a hat), and I happen to have the color you want on hand the cost may not differ, however, there is no guarantee.

What is the actual process?

I think it's best to give you an example: A friend of mine saw a scarf that I had made and really liked it, but she wanted it in different colors. We messaged back and forth with a color scheme and pictures, she approved the colors that I used, and voila! Commissioned scarf! She paid me via Venmo (I accept other forms of payment as well which can and will be discussed in our exchange) and I shipped it off to her. I have also been known to do a meet-up to hand off the commissioned item if the distance is feasible.

What are the shipping rates?

I normally don't charge for shipping, unless it is a significantly large item or order. I also would charge you if you would like tracking or rush shipping. This will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Are there commissions you won't do?

As much as I want to say that I will do anything, I don't believe that it's possible to do EVERYTHING. I do need to be realistic about my time as this is a "hobby/side hustle". Please reach out with any requests and I will do my best to seriously consider my ability to create the item for you. Several aspects go into the creation of a project and I have to assess not only the skill level required but the time needed as well as the ability to get the right materials. I do my absolute best to meet the needs of the project but if I don't believe that I will be able to do it justice, I will let you know.
